How it's Made

How it's made.

1. Timber purchase

We buy mahogany and mindy trees from government controlled plantations as well as reclaimed European pine
to fulfill our manufacturing requirements.  See further detailed information.

2. Trees are de-barked and cut according to the various dimensions required for each piece of furniture
   being made.

3. Commercially dried to 6-9% for mahogany and 10-12% for Mindy this takes approximately 10-12 days and
longer in the rainy season.  During the rainy season any furniture that has been unfinished after 1 week
is placed in our in house kiln until the correct moisture content is reached.

4. Timber is then shaped carved and cabinet jointed by hand with hand tools in the most traditional way by
highly skilled staff.  See further detailed information.

5. We then start finishing which will include hand painting, lacquer application, gilting, ageing methods
and vintage finishes applied. Each aspect requires many steps all generally requiring 2 weeks to complete.

Further information about the finishes on our french furniture can be found here.
